THE BLEND
An upgrade born from curiosity and craft.
Tangy Turmeric was already a fan favorite — bright, citrusy, and vibrant in the way a summer beverage should be. But after research into how turmeric's most beneficial compound — curcumin — is absorbed by the body, a question emerged. What if the blend could be made not just delicious but more effective?
The answer was peppercorn. Specifically piperine — the compound found in pepper that research suggests may significantly enhance the body's absorption of curcumin from turmeric and gingerols from ginger. Black pepper was considered but set aside — too sharp, too likely to alter the flavor of a blend people already loved. White peppercorn from Sri Lanka was the solution. It carries the piperine compound while remaining mild enough to preserve the integrity of the original.
What wasn't anticipated was what happened aromatically. When the white peppercorn is freshly ground, it releases a sweetness — almost floral — that finds the turmeric and ginger in the cup and brings them together in a way that feels entirely new. The brightness of the lemon and the earthiness of the turmeric don't compete anymore. They settle into each other. The whole blend becomes slightly more mellow, more rounded, more fall.
Tangy Turmeric Plus isn't just Tangy Turmeric with pepper added. It's Tangy Turmeric improved — by a lot.

Directions:
Create Concentrate: Place the two teabags in a mug or heatproof container. Pour 8 oz. of hot water (200°F) over the teabags.

M.R. PAYTON ON TANGY TURMERIC PLUS
Tangy Turmeric was already one of our most loved blends. Bright, citrusy, alive. But I kept thinking about curcumin — the compound in turmeric that does so much of the wellness work — and how difficult it is for the body to absorb on its own. Research kept pointing me toward piperine, the compound found in peppercorn, as the answer.
Black pepper was too aggressive. It would have changed the character of the blend entirely. White peppercorn from Sri Lanka was the solution — it carries the piperine while staying mild enough to let everything else breathe.
What I didn't expect was the aroma. When I grind fresh white peppercorn there's a sweetness to it — almost floral — that I had never noticed before. And when it met the turmeric and ginger in the cup, something shifted. The brightness was still there. The zest was still there. But everything became more rounded. More settled. The white pepper doesn't dominate — it waves at you gently and goes back to doing its work quietly.
I took it to the Cary Farmers Market in 2024 for a first tasting and the response told me everything I needed to know. People who loved Tangy Turmeric found something new to love in the Plus version. Not better or worse — just different in the way the seasons are different from each other.
I imagine Jasperians drinking this on a cool fall evening. Maybe with a splash of oat milk. The lavender and chamomile settling them down. The turmeric and ginger keeping them warm. The lemon reminding them of summer without pulling them back to it. That's exactly what this blend was made for.
